SMF blowing machines in Optima series can be equipped in hot-fill module and can produce hot-fill PET bottles.

Special designed Hot-Fill bottles require panel areas around the bottle body or special membrane bottom to protect the bottles against deformation during hot-filling.

Moreover, special process of blowing Hot-Fill bottles allows to converted resin structure from an amorphous to a semi crystalline structure which makes bottle more strong. After hot-filling bottle PET should be immediately cooled down.

After cooling down from filling temperature of 85°C, volume of the liquid 1000ml is shrinking by ca.31ml

Nitrogen dosing systems are used in hot -fill technology to balance the interior pressure inside the bottle. Dose of nitrogen is delivered to the bottle immediately after filling – just before capping. Using liquid nitrogen which expands up to 700 times its volumes allows to counteracts the vacuum, created when hot-filled product cools down and help to balance the shrinking of PET bottle. Nitogen pushed also oxygen out of the container which has benefitial for durability of the product inside the bottle.

Main HOT-FILL Process Parameters:

Preform temperature : 105-120 C

Mould temperature: 125-160C

Bottle temperature: 60-80 C

Output per cavity: 500-1500 BPH

Crystallinity 30-35%

Critical features of PET hot-fill bottle:

• High crystallinity improves thermal residence of PET bottles

• Vacuum Panels are strong enough to withstand hydrostatic pressure inside the bottle

• Vacuum Panels are flexible and allows compensating volume shrinkage during cooling down

• Special Bottom design – enforcement of the bottle bottom to make it pressure resist
